Rio, 7/1/2003 (Agência Brasil - ABr) - The city of Rio de Janeiro will host the World Summit 2004 Information Society Conference for Latin America and the Caribbean.

The Information Society has a busy schedule. A meeting will take place this year in December in Switzerland. That will be followed by the Rio summit. And then, in 2005, in Tunisia, another world summit.

The announcement of the Rio world summit was made at the end of the Brazilian Information Society Summit which just took place in Rio de Janeiro. Hosting the world summit event will cost around US$1 million, which will be raised from sources in federal and state governments, and the private sector. (AB)
