Brazilian GDP in first quarter rose to R$344.3 billion

Rio, 6/30/2003 (Agência Brasil - ABr) - Brazil's GDP in the first quarter of 2003 rose to R$344.3 billion, according to the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE).

A GDP breakdown is as follows: Family Consumption totalled R$207.2 billion, Government Spending R$57.2 billion, and Gross Capital Formation R$65.8 billion. The balance on Goods and Services had a surplus of R$9.7 billion, and Stock Variation was R$4.3 billion.

According to the IBGE, Gross Income rose from R$287.7 billion during the first quarter of 2002, to R$332.5 billion in the first quarter this year. Domestic savings, during the same period, rose from R$52.8 billion to R$70.2 billion. (AB)
