Brasília, 6/24/2003 (Agência Brasil - ABr) - Minister of Foreign Relations, Celso Amorim, will be in Lebanon today where he will meet president Emile Lahoud and the president of the Council of Ministers, Rafik Hariri [who recently visited Brazil]. Amorim will deliver a letter from president Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva and have a working meeting with the Lebanese Foreign Minister, Jean Obeid.
Yesterday Amorim was in Jordan where he met UN secretary general, Kofi Annan, for talks on peace in the Middle East, the situation in Columbia and United Nations issues. Amorim also met with UN envoy to Iraq, the Brazilian, Sergio Vieira de Mello, for talks focussed on UN participation in the reconstruction of Iraq. At the end of the day, Amorim was in Egypt for a meeting with president Hosni Mubarak and Foreign Minister Amr Moussa. Their talks had the objective of strengthening bilateral political and economic ties.(AB)
