Rio, June 16, 2003 (Agência Brasil - ABr) - The Feema (State Foundation of Environmental Engineering) and Petrobras have already managed to contain the oil spill in the ship fueling terminal in warehouse 1, near the Mauá Square pier, in the port of Rio de Janeiro. About 800 liters of oil spilled from a fuel main yesterday afternoon (15), after a collision caused by a Petrobras carrier.

According to the Feema, the hole in the main was sealed some hours after the accident, but technical personnel from the Feema and Petrobras flew over the area this morning and observed a new oil stain. Teams from both institutions extended containment buoys, to keep the oil from spreading, and they remain at the site monitoring the spill. (DAS)
