Ouro Preto (MG), 4/22/2003 (Agência Brasil - ABr) - Yesterday president Luiz Inácio Lula Silva said that in a globalized world the next frontier that must be conquered consists of the world's remaining social problems. Speaking to 10,000 people in the historical center of Ouro Preto, Lula said there was an abyss between those who benefitted from globalization and those who did not. Calling the world economy a necessary tool, Lula pointed out that there were other values which should not be subordinated to the logic of mercantilism.
"We are working to change this situation. We seek globalization with social justice. We believe everyone should be allowed to compete on equal terms," said the president, adding that even though Brazi could not do everything it wants to do, it can do much. (AB)
