Porto Alegre, 1/28/2003 (Agência Brasil - ABr) - A commission of twelve members, six Palestinians and six Israelis, read yesterday the final document from a seminar on the Middle East peace process, which is being called the Carta de Porto Alegre. The reading was transmitted live by Radiobrás to TV stations in the Middle East.
The document calls for the creation of an independent Palestinian state, alongside Israel, and calls for Jerusalem to be an open city. The document also calls on the United Nations to intervene so as to put an end to the conflict there and install a longlasting peace. (AB)
