Rio, December 5, 2002 (Agência Brasil - ABr) - Petrobrás announced the discovery of a new oil well in the north of the Campos Basin, in Rio de Janeiro, at a distance of around 10 kilometers from the recently discovered Jubarte Field. In a note released today, the state-run company informed that the well (1-ESS 116) was drilled 76 kilometers from the coast, at a depth of 1478 meters, and perforated deposits with a porous layer of 60 meters.

According to the note, geological studies of the area indicate potential reserves of approximately 300 million barrels of petroleum, which together with the Jubarte Field reserves amount to around 900 million barrels of petroleum in reserves already discovered in the BC-60 block. In the area of the well that was just discovered, initial studies estimate a daily production of 20 thousand barrels of petroleum. Petrobrás affirmed that the Jubarte Field is currently producing 17 thousand barrels daily, from one well, but it has the capacity to produce 25 thousand barrels daily. (DAS)
