''Literature in My House'' Program distributed around 60 million books

Brasília, December 4, 2002 (Agência Brasil - ABr) - The "Literature in My House" Program, created by the Ministry of Education in 2001, is the "crowning" of public policies developed by the ministry in the last 8 years, according to the minister of Education, Paulo Renato Souza. He took part in the "Literature in My House" Teleconference, which Executive TV presented live at the Embratel auditorium in this capital.

To stimulate reading, the program distributed around 60 million books to 8.5 million students in the 4th and 5th grades, at the beginning of this year. The second phase of the Program, which has as its slogan "books are first-order commodities," will donate 5-book sets to 3.5 million students in the 4th grade, at the start of 2003. (DAS)
