Rio, December 4, 2002 (Agência Brasil - ABr) - Over the years federal enterprises have been the most important in terms of revenues. In 2000, of every R$ 100 (US$ 27.37) earned by government companies, R$ 75 (US$ 20.53) came from federal enterprises. This proportion has changed very little since 1995, despite privatization. These data were presented today by the IBGE, at the release of its Study on the Size of the Government's Entrepreneurial Activity.

According to the study, among the most important economic activities exercised by this group, in all regions, are Finance, Manufacturing, Energy, and Commerce, which, together, are responsible for approximately 94% of the total revenues of federal government enterprises. Financial activity stands out, with nearly half of all earnings (47.34%), as a result of the large number of federal banks. (DAS)
