Communication minister Pimenta da Veiga to resign in March

Brasilia, 27 (Agência Brasil - ABr) - Minister of Communications Pimenta da Veiga announced Tuesday that he will return to the Chamber of Deputies to serve out his 5th term in Congress for the state of Minas Gerais. He added that he won't run for any elected office and will speak, this week, with the presidential candidate of the PSDB party, Senator Jose Serra (of São Paulo), in order to evaluate the invitation made by Serra to coordinate his campaign. "If it's something convergent, I'm willing to help," said Pimenta, who intends to resign from his current post at the end of March.

The minister added that he doesn't intend to hold public office in the upcoming administration and said that he will communicate this fact to President Cardoso, when he returns from Europe. As to his successor at the Communication ministry, Pimenta da Veiga said that no one has been chosen yet. (MW)
