Brasília – The effort by federal, state and municipal governments, along with state-run enterprises, to economize money to pay debt interest (“juros da dívida”), known as the primary surplus, has made it possible for R$71.229 billion to be set aside during the first seven months of this year. For the sake of comparison, during the same period last year, the primary surplus was R$91.979 billion. For the last twelve months, the total is R$107.96 billion.
In July, the primary surplus was R$5.57 billion, compared to R$13.789 billion in July 2011.
The government’s primary surplus target for this year is R$139.8 billion.
