Brasília – The number of low-income housewives making contributions to the Social Security system rose from 5,528 to 52,040 between October and December last year. They make monthly payments of 5% of the minimum wage (R$622), a total contribution of around R$31. And as a result have access to retirement benefits, sick pay, maternity pay and pensions. The housewives must register (Cadastro Único para Programas Sociais - CadÚnico”) and have family income of up to two minimum wages (R$1,244). Registration is possible by phone, calling 135.
