Brasília – Most public utility fees in Brazil are controlled by the government (“preços administrados”). The telecommunications regulatory agency, Agência Nacional de Telecomunicações (Anatel), has just announced authorization for a fee increase that will make domestic phone calls more expensive and raise the price of the basic subscription (“assinatura básica”).
The amount of the increase varies from telephone company to telephone company, from 1.954% to 1.969%.
Anatel also adjusted the price of public telephone calls. They will cost R$0.125, which means a phone credit card with 20 credits will cost R$2.50.
All Anatel prices include various taxes and so-called social contributions (“contribuições sociais”).
