Rio de Janeiro – According to the government statistical bureau (“IBGE”), GDP growth in the first three months of 2011 reached 1.3%, compared to the last quarter of 2010. Strongest growth was in the farm sector (“agropecuária”), which rose 3.3%. The industrial segment registered growth of 2.2%, and the services sector rose 1.1%.

In a year-to-year comparison (compared with the first quarter of 2010), GDP growth in the first quarter of 2011 was up 4.2%,  with farm sector growth at 3.1%, industry up 3.5% and services up 4%.

The IBGE also announced a revision in its GDP growth rate in the last quarter of 2010, from 0.7% to 0.8%.
