Brasília – A UN round table discussion begins today here in Brasilia with representatives of five Latin American nations on reaching the Millennium Goals (Mesa-Redonda da América Latina sobre os Objetivos de Desenvolvimento do Milênio). Representatives from Europe, Africa and Asia will also participate.

This is actually the third such regional round table on Millennium Goals held by the UN (the first was in Paris, the second in Algiers).

The main objective of the round table is to examine the use of education as a strategic instrument in fulfilling the Millennium Goals and reducing poverty in general, explains Hanifa Mezoui, the head of the section of the UN's Department of Economic and Social Affairs (Ecosoc) on NGOs.
