Brasília, 3 (Agência Brasil - ABr) - Luiz Guilherme Schymura took office as the new head of the telecommunications regulatory agency (Anatel) yesterday saying that he does not see any evidence of a telecommunications sector downturn. "What we see are signs of large investments, resulting in an excess of telephone lines, 10 million of them," said Schymura.

The new Anatel president said he intends to intensify regulation of the sector during his term of office which runs until 2005, in order to improve service quality and competitivity. He also promised to continue opening the market. "In order to survive nowadays we must open our market, conquer other markets and bring what is best to Brazil," said Schymura. (AB)
