Brasília, 12 (Agência Brasil - ABr) - On Thursday, president Fernando Henrique Cardoso will inaugurate the Porto Camargo bridge complex, which connects Icaraíma (Paraná) to Naviraí (Mato Grosso do Sul), and is the biggest of its kind in Latin America. The inauguration marks the opening of a new highway corridor in Central-West Brazil, reducing the distance to the port city of Porto de Paranaguá. It also opens the way to more development in the northwest region of the state of Paraná.

The complex extends for 16 kilometers. Work was begun in 1987, but came to a standstill in 1990 for six years. The whole enterprise cost R$155 million (US$65.9 million). (AB)
