Brasília, 16 (Agência Brasil - ABr) - Minister of Justice, Miguel Reale Júnior, speaking yeterday at the 7th Conference National on Human Rights, called for the use of social policies to combat violence. "You cannot fight violence only through repression," said the minister, adding that respect for human rights is fundamental for resolving the problem.

According to the president of the Human Rights commission, deputy Orlando Fampazzini (PT/São Paulo), violence is not just a matter of police and public security, but something which involves education, economy and culture.

The Unicef representative in Brazil, Reiko Niimi, pointed out the importance of the problem at the level of children. Reale Junior said he was sending president Cardoso a bill that would crackdown on child labor, making it a crime to employ children. (AB)
