Imports of fruit from Argentina remains suspended

Brasília, 23 (Agência Brasil - ABr) - The Ministry of Agriculture has decided to maintain the suspension of imports from Argentina's 2001/2002 harvest of pears, apples and peaches. The original suspension dates from May 8, when Cydia pomonella was found in Argentine fruit. The disease does not exist in Brazil.

As for the next harvest, Argentina has announced new inspection methods, similar to those employed in Brazil for fruit exported to the US, to deal with the problem. (AB)
