Brasilia, 22 (Agência Brasil - ABr) - President Fernando Henrique Cardoso said Thursday - when arriving in Sweden - that the decision reached by the Central Bank's Monetary Policy Council (COPOM) to reduce the basic interest rate of the Brazilian economy in 25/100s of a percent reveals a firm tendency for falling interest rates from now on. "They reached this decision in an absolutely independent manner from political interference, based on the numbers at hand. And whenever possible, they will lower the rate. All Brazilians desire this, and so do I," Cardoso concluded. (MW).
