Brasilia, 22 (Agência Brasil - ABr) - The 13 years of existence that the Brazilian Institute of the Environment and Renewable Natural Resources (IBAMA) completed today represent the consolidation of the agency, which overcame all the skepticism surrounding it when it was first founded. This is what the acting Environment Minister, Jose Carlos Carvalho, said in an interview to Radiobras. "Society has demanded more public policies in this area," he said, adding that this factor has contributed to improving the work of IBAMA professionals.
In commemoration of the agency's anniversary, a 'Nucleus of Studies, Management and Conservation of Medicinal Plants' will be instituted. According to the minister, the implementation of this nucleus is aimed at promoting the conservation of Brazilian biodiversity, the largest of the world. (MW)
