Brasília, 9/11/2003(Agência Brasil-ABr) - The Senate has approved a motion to nominate Sergio Vieira de Mello for the Nobel Peace Prize. The motion was made by senator Pedro Simon (PMDB-RS). Vieira de Mello was killed on August 19 in a terrorist attack on UN headquarters in Baghdad.
"Sergio Vieira de Mello died serving peace. He died as a citizen of the world in search of peace for the world. I think this is a unique event: a person who lived and died for peace and liberty," declared Simon. (AB)
